The coolest Southeast Asian/Asian retailers/shops in the UK

A sunset shoreline photo of Malaysia, with palm trees and a fishing hut.

Our mission is to peel back the veil on quality Southeast Asian culture and produce, and introduce new, exciting yet high quality products that you can easily use and enjoy. Today’s blog is a special feature on the some amazing/cool businesses that are elevating the Asian brand in the UK. We will be doing these on an ongoing basis, spotlighting different brands that we see and frequent:

1. Raya Grocery - Created by the founders of Khanom Krok stall in Borough Market (one of my favourites!), Raya Grocery is a modern supermarket bringing the best of Southeast Asian product to the heart of London. Check them out for authentic Southeast Asian sauces, herbs, fresh ingredients and even ready made sauces!

2. Malaysian eateries- There are more and more casual Malaysian eateries sprouting up around the UK, with different takes on Malaysian classics. They all have one thing in common- they are super-fr***king delicious, perfect for a quality quick bite with friends. The eateries include Gopal’s Corner (some of the best Roti Canai you will have this side of the world), Ekachai (a wide range of classic Southeast Asian cooking), Dapur (they make a super legit version of the ‘economy rice’ in Malaysia, although there is nothing economy with their taste and portions).

3. Malaysian restaurants- These are full-fledged restaurants, with an extensive menu of laksa, fried rice, fried noodles, soup noodles, breads and the trimmings. From Rasa in Westfield, to Laksamania in Tottenham Court Road, to Rasa Sayang in Chinatown, these places bring your taste buds on a trip around the world!

Next time, we will introduce some non-Malaysian outposts that are championing Asian culture in the UK. We plan to let this series be super organic, and grow as it goes. Stay tuned!
